English Grammar के Singular और Plural के Rules को MP प्राथमिक शिक्षक चयन परीक्षा के दृष्टिकोण से विस्तारपूर्वक, हिंदी और अंग्रेजी दोनों भाषा में उदाहरणों सहित समझाया गया है।

📘 Singular and Plural – Rules with Explanation (हिंदी + English में)

🔹 Rule 1: सामान्य शब्दों में अंत में 's' जोड़कर बहुवचन बनाया जाता है

(Add –s to most nouns to form plurals)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Book → Books (पुस्तक → पुस्तकें)
  • Pen → Pens (कलम → कलमें)
  • Girl → Girls (लड़की → लड़कियाँ)
  • Dog → Dogs (कुत्ता → कुत्ते)

🔹 Rule 2: जिन शब्दों के अंत में s, ss, sh, ch, x, या o हो, उनमें –es जोड़ते हैं

(If the word ends in s, ss, sh, ch, x, or o, add –es)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Bus → Buses (बस → बसें)
  • Class → Classes (कक्षा → कक्षाएँ)
  • Brush → Brushes (ब्रश → ब्रशें)
  • Box → Boxes (डिब्बा → डिब्बे)
  • Tomato → Tomatoes (टमाटर → टमाटर)

🔸 Note: कुछ "o" पर खत्म होने वाले शब्द सिर्फ –s जोड़कर भी बनते हैं

  • Photo → Photos
  • Piano → Pianos

🔹 Rule 3: अगर शब्द के अंत में ‘y’ हो और उसके पहले व्यंजन (consonant) हो, तो y हटाकर –ies जोड़ते हैं

(If a noun ends in consonant + y, drop the y and add –ies)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Baby → Babies (शिशु → शिशु)
  • Lady → Ladies (महिला → महिलाएँ)
  • Story → Stories (कहानी → कहानियाँ)

🔸 Note: यदि ‘y’ से पहले स्वर (vowel) हो, तो केवल –s जोड़ते हैं:

  • Boy → Boys (लड़का → लड़के)
  • Toy → Toys (खिलौना → खिलौने)

🔹 Rule 4: जिन शब्दों के अंत में 'f' या 'fe' होता है, उसमें 'f' या 'fe' हटाकर –ves जोड़ते हैं

(If a noun ends in 'f' or 'fe', change it to –ves)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Knife → Knives (चाकू → चाकू)
  • Wife → Wives (पत्नी → पत्नियाँ)
  • Leaf → Leaves (पत्ता → पत्ते)
  • Wolf → Wolves (भेड़िया → भेड़िए)

🔸 Exceptions (अपवाद):
कुछ शब्दों में केवल –s जोड़ते हैं:

  • Roof → Roofs
  • Chief → Chiefs

🔹 Rule 5: कुछ nouns के plurals अनियमित होते हैं (Irregular Plurals)

(Irregular nouns do not follow standard rules)

🔹 Rule 6: कुछ nouns के singular और plural समान रहते हैं

(Some nouns have the same form in both singular and plural)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Sheep → Sheep (भेड़)
  • Deer → Deer (हिरन)
  • Fish → Fish (मछली)
  • Series → Series
  • Species → Species

🔸 Note: Fish का plural fishes भी होता है जब विभिन्न प्रजातियों की बात हो।

🔹 Rule 7: Compound nouns में मुख्य शब्द को plural बनाते हैं

(In compound nouns, make the main word plural)

Examples / उदाहरण:

  • Son-in-law → Sons-in-law (दामाद → दामादगण)
  • Mother-in-law → Mothers-in-law (सास → सासें)
  • Commander-in-chief → Commanders-in-chief

🔹 Rule 8: कुछ विदेशी शब्दों के plurals अलग बनते हैं (Latin/Greek origin)
